The National Museum of the American Indian (DC) posted this photo today on their Facebook page and said this:

Spied outside near the museum today…what do you think? What does it mean? Can anyone shed some light on this sticker?

I’ve seen this on the ‘Native American’ tag before but I really brushed it aside as some sort of strange nonsensical hipster trash. I’m still not convinced that it isn’t. In which case, it boggles the mind that this would be put on a sign near the NMAI museum (which is free, so you’d really kind of hope that more folks would go and get some knowledge, but… I digress).

A few people suggested that it had something to do with the "First Nation Coalition for Aboriginal Rights" or "Aboriginals in Australia”. I am highly suspicious. Like, internet side-eye suspicious. Someone else said they found a group called the Koala-Indian Spirits. Yup. The Koala-Indian Spirits. However, a thorough google image search doesn’t link the two. So yeah, there’s another person or other people out there that think the two are somehow related.

I googled and I googled and it seems like these stickers are making their rounds. But for the life of me, I couldn’t find out where they were coming from.

Does anyone have the answer?!
